Dodge Challenger Demon 170 Houston TX

Dodge has always pushed the limits when it comes to providing powerful muscle cars. From Main Street to the drag strip, all eyes are on the Dodge Challenger. Here at Gillman Chrysler Dodge Ram, we're proud to offer the latest news from Dodge to our esteemed customers. As disappointing as it is, Dodge has made the impossible decision to discontinue the current form of the Dodge Challenger. However, before completely making its exit, Dodge felt a victory lap should be taken to celebrate the impressive history of this American icon. They did so with a lineup of Last Call special editions. The final release of the Challenger's Last Call lineup was the Demon 170. Shattering records and boasting more than 1,000 horsepower, the Demon 170 is not for the faint of heart! The team here at Gillman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is thrilled to have the opportunity to share details of the 2023 Dodge Challenger Demon 170. Read below to learn more!

What's So Special About the Challenger Demon 170 Engine?

The 2023 Dodge Challenger Demon 170 has claimed the title of the fastest factory muscle car in the world. Furthermore, with an 8.91-second quarter-mile time, it is the first-ever eight-second factory muscle car. To achieve these feats, Dodge began with the impressive platform provided by the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. However, the 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that the Hellcat Redeye uses was replaced by one engineered and tuned by Dodge Direct Connection. Enhancements were made to virtually every component of the supercharged engine, down to the spark plugs, throttle body, and fuel injectors. However, the most impressive upgrades come from the supercharger. Using DNA from the Dodge Direct Connection C170 Hellephant supercharger, the Demon 170 boasts an astonishing 21.3 PSI of boost, which is 40% greater than the 15.3 PSI produced by the Hellcat Redeye's supercharger. This added boost gives the engine 30% more airflow. The upgraded engine is able to run on E85 or E10 ethanol fuel and features an ethanol sensor in the fuel tank to detect the percentage. To maximize performance, E85 fuel allows the engine to push out 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque for a staggering 1.66-second 0-60 time. When using E10 fuel, the Demon 170 still produces an exhilarating 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque.

What Else Makes the Challenger Demon 170 So Fast?

If anyone knows that it takes more than a powerful engine to make a car fast, it's Dodge. That's why Dodge meticulously designed the Demon 170 to be lighter, more aerodynamic, and more agile. To do this, Dodge started by removing the front fender flares from the Hellcat Redeye's widebody kit, while keeping the rears. This shed 16 pounds off the Challenger's weight. Dodge took it one step further by shedding a whopping 157 pounds by adding lightweight carbon fiber wheels from Lacks Enterprises. The wheels are wrapped with Mickey Thomson drag radials with a staggered fitment. The front tires are 18 by 9 inches, while the rears measure 17 by 12 inches, making it the only muscle car with staggered wheels from the factory. To maintain balance during track runs, the Demon 170 uses Bilstein shock absorbers with adaptive damping suspension that optimizes weight transfer and can be customized using the Drag Mode. Demon 170 owners can opt for a parachute and roll cage from Mopar if they plan to use it for drag racing, its intended purpose. These features are required to use the Demon 170 at a National Hot Rod Association event, as it achieves a quarter-mile time under nine seconds.

What Other Models Make Up the Challenger Last Call Lineup?

In total, there are four Dodge Challenger Last Call special editions, including the Demon 170. The first to be introduced was the Shakedown. Based on the R/T Scat Pack, the Challenger Shakedown features a black-and-red color scheme inside and out, along with Mopar's Shaker hood. The Challenger Shakedown was inspired by the concept car under the same name that Dodge revealed at the 2016 SEMA auto show. Next to be revealed was the Swinger, which reminds us of the Challenger's origins with retro-themed Gold School gold accents complementing a green paint job and 'Swinger' decals on the rear fender in a font reminiscent of the 70s. The third to be revealed was the Black Ghost, which is also based on the Challenger Hellcat Redeye. The Challenger Black Ghost is inspired by the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT owned by Godfrey Qualls. Featuring exclusive design elements like a snake-skin vinyl roof, a white stripe on the decklid, bold chrome Dodge lettering on the hood, and other unique features, the Black Ghost lives up to its intimidating name. Dodge saved the best for last, introducing the Demon 170 at their Roadkill Nights Vegas event, capturing the true essence of America's muscle car brand.
