2024 Dodge Hornet GT vs R/T

Learn the Differences Below!

Dodge kicked off its next generation with the introduction of the Dodge Hornet lineup. Reentering the brand into the compact utility vehicle (CUV) segment for the first time since 2012, the Hornet smoothly integrates functionality, performance, and Dodge's signature muscle car style. While four trim levels of the Dodge Hornet exist, the primary two are the GT and R/T. Meanwhile, the other two trims are Plus variants of these two models, adding an array of premium features. While the GT and R/T trim levels look the same, a more detailed inspection shows that they are actually quite different, beginning with two all-new engine options. Here at Gillman Chrysler Dodge Ram, we want drivers in Houston, Texas, to be well-versed on all the cars in our inventory. That's why you can find all the details you need on the Hornet GT and R/T trim levels below!

What Powers the 2024 Dodge Hornet GT?

The first engine Dodge introduced for the Hornet is the all-new Hurricane 4 engine. This turbocharged two-liter inline four-cylinder powerhouse unleashes a best-in-class 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque! To enhance efficiency, the Hurricane 4 engine uses engine stop-start (ESS) technology, which cuts power to the engine when idling and powers it back up when the brake pedal is released. The Hurricane 4 engine features a twin-scroll turbocharger with an electronically actuated wastegate to provide the engine with forced air induction. This wastegate helps improve the car's responsiveness and enhance its performance. To help keep the temperature of the Hornet's throttle body, turbocharging unit, and intake air, the Hurricane 4 engine features a water-to-air intercooler. This benefits the driver in two ways. First, it provides greater engine durability and longevity, as excessive heat can be detrimental to the engine. Second, it contributes to lower fuel consumption, as excessive heat can also decrease your fuel economy. To optimize the GT's performance, a Sport mode button can be found on the center console. Pressing this button unlocks the full potential of the engine by optimizing shift timing, sharpening the throttle response, and providing a tighter feel while steering. In sport mode, the GT Plus can reach 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds from a standstill. Powering the Hornet GT's standard all-wheel-drive system is a nine-speed automatic transmission.

How Powerful is the 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T?

With the introduction of the Dodge Hornet R/T, Dodge introduced its first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The Hornet R/T is the most powerful and fuel-efficient engine in the Hornet lineup and likely in Dodge's history as well. Lifting the hood uncovers a turbocharged 1.3L inline four-cylinder engine. Complementing this is an electric motor mounted to the rear axle. This 90-kilowatt electric motor draws power from a rechargeable battery pack. These two powerplants work together to provide the Hornet R/T with all-wheel drive while maximizing efficiency by powering the front wheels with the turbocharged engine and the rear wheels with the electric motor. Thanks to the electric power, the Hornet R/T achieves remarkable performance with an instant 184 lb-ft of torque. The total power output numbers are 288 horsepower and a remarkable 383 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Hornet R/T also features steering wheel paddle shifters for sequential gear control for an exciting driving experience. Adding to this excitement is the all-new PowerShot feature. By pulling both paddle shifters while accelerating, drivers activate PowerShot, unlocking a 15-second burst of 25 extra horsepower, providing a thrilling 5.6-second 0-60 time and a top speed of 128 MPH! To maximize fuel efficiency, the Hornet R/T offers three drive modes; Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save.
