Learn More from Gillman CDJR!
Since the 1960s, Dodge has pushed the limits and expectations of muscle cars and continuously finds new ways to keep the title of America's muscle car brand. As the automotive industry pushes toward an electric future, Dodge has found a way to join that push without sacrificing the performance that the brand is known for. The latest concept from Dodge is the Charger Daytona SRT Concept. This battery-electric vehicle (BEV) provides all the power and excitement you'd expect from a muscle car with zero emissions! Continue reading below to learn more about the Dodge Charger Daytona Concept and the excitement it brings.
First-Ever Dodge Battery Electric Powertrain
The Charger Daytona SRT Concept is the first-ever all-electric vehicle from Dodge. With the Dodge name being synonymous with high performance, Dodge knew that their first electric car had to be as exciting as their current and past muscle cars. Dodge named the concept car after the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, which was the first car to ever break 200 miles per hour to boast its performance. Going electric is an excellent choice for the muscle car brand, as torque from an electric powertrain is immediately available, unlike the delay needed to build up RPMs in an internal combustion engine. Dodge developed the Banshee powertrain specifically for the Charger Daytona SRT Concept. Banshee is an 800-volt BEV system that mates two electric motors powered by a rechargeable battery pack to the all-new eRupt multi-speed transmission. The eRupt transmission uses electro-mechanical shifting to provide a jolt every time the gears change, as only a muscle car can. Dodge also recently developed the PowerShot feature, which is currently available on the all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet. PowerShot gives drivers a fifteen-second burst of additional horsepower to increase performance at the push of a button. The 400-volt Banshee powertrain will offer two output levels providing varying amounts of horsepower. The 340-kilowatt powertrain provides 455 horsepower for the base trim, while the eStage 1 gets 495 horsepower and eStage 2 gets 535 horsepower. Meanwhile, the 440-kW powertrain gives the base trim 590 horsepower, the eStage 1 630 horsepower, and the eStage 2 a heart-pounding 670 horsepower. Dodge has hinted at an 800-volt Banshee powertrain, but it has not yet been revealed.
Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept Exterior Design
Electric cars seem to follow a similar design. However, Dodge takes an entirely different approach with the Charger Daytona SRT Concept. Dodge is known for its unique muscle car style, with sharp lines and bold stances. This is exactly what is used to create a unique appearance for the brand's new concept car. The front and rear feature the triangular Fratzog logo, introduced in 1962 and used through the 1976 model year. This replaces the rhombi logo that has been used for Dodge vehicles since 2010. The Fratzog logo is used to signify the concept car's muscle car heritage and is illuminated with a red glow. The front fascia has an LED light bar spanning the width of the vehicle just below the hood connecting the headlights. At the rear, a red light bar connects the taillights, passing through the illuminated red Fratzog logo. The concept's hood is home to a patent-pending R-Wing which provides unprecedented aerodynamics. The R-Wing creates openings at the front of the vehicle, allowing air to pass through and over to create more downforce to enhance performance.
Interior Design of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept
Stepping behind the wheel of the Charger Daytona SRT Concept gives you a fighter jet cockpit feeling. The driver-centric layout that Dodge has honed shines brightly, with the entire center stack shifted slightly to face the driver. Sitting on top of the center stack is a 12.3-inch horizontal touchscreen for entertainment, navigation, and climate controls. The center of the steering wheel is detached from the outer rim, creating a floating appearance. Behind the race-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel, you'll find a large fully-digital gauge cluster for all your driving information. Looking down at the center console, you'll find an ignition start button with a red flip cover and a pistol-grip gear shifter, furthering the fighter jet cockpit feeling. The cabin is filled with plenty of natural lighting thanks to the panoramic glass roof.
