An all-electric minivan with self-driving capability sounds pretty futuristic, doesn’t it? But it may not be as far off in the future as you would think. This week, FCA US LLC hinted that their Chrysler Portal concept car first revealed at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and on display now at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), may soon be driving the Pearland, TX streets. Our dealers at Gillman Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM are excited to see the possibilities!

The Chrysler Portal concept was a show-stealing success when it made its debut at CES 2017 in Las Vegas earlier this month. Lauded for its sleek design featuring silver accents and unique dual sliding doors, the concept car wowed the crowd as a viable electric family hauler with zero emissions. The Chrysler Portal is a six-seater vehicle with a promised range of 250 miles on a single charge, all thanks to a 100-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. It is designed with fast-charging capabilities that can add 150 miles of range to the batter in less than 20 minutes, and allows for connectivity for every occupants mobile devices. The Chrysler Portal (or whatever name or shape that it ultimately comes in) probably won’t go into production until after 2018, but in terms of a potentially self-driving, all-electric vehicle this is much sooner than you’d think.

Though the Chrysler Portal may not be arriving at our Houston, TX Chrysler dealership anytime soon, we do have an amazing selection of family-friendly vehicles, including the outstanding 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has been earning rave reviews for its features and fuel efficiency, so in the meantime, stop in to our Chrysler dealership near Pearland, TX and take it for a test drive! Gillman Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM is confident that you’ll love this minivan so much you just may drive home in it.
