It’s really no wonder this SUV is breaking records: the 2017 Jeep Cherokee boasts an upgraded 3.2-liter V6 engine that is capable of producing 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The four-wheel drivetrain is especially impressive in the Jeep Cherokee: standard on 4WD is a light-duty Active Drive l 4WD system that comes with a Selec-Terrain® feature to opt for different terrain modes. The Trailhawk and the Overland trims get an extra upgrade in drivetrain, with the Active Drive ll system that features low-range gearing and an extra Rock mode to really kick up notch of off-roading potential.
Now in its fifth generation, the Jeep Cherokee was originally manufactured as a sportier two-door version of the Jeep Wagoneer back in 1974, and a four-door version was eventually introduced in 1977. Upgrades over the years have included the introduction of a unibody design, a brief rename as the Jeep Liberty, and the introduction of the PowerTech engine to Jeep vehicles.
