If you caught the Super Bowl a couple of weeks ago, you not only watched an excellent football game, but you also likely glimpsed two exciting new advertisements for RAM pickup trucks. RAM has a long history of creating talked-about commercials for the Super Bowl, and this year proved to be no exception, as the ads generated plenty of buzz for the 2018 RAM 1500.
The first RAM commercial to air during the game was known as Vikings. During this ad, a group of Vikings rode in the new 2019 RAM 1500 while the pickup truck towed a massive Viking ship. This advertisement may be a subtle nod to the city of Minneapolis, which is where the Super Bowl was held and where the local NFL team is the Vikings. While the 2019 RAM 1500 probably won’t be towing any Viking ships in real life, the massive 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine on this upcoming truck will be able to tow up to 12,750 pounds while carrying a payload of 2,300 pounds.
The second RAM commercial that aired during the Super Bowl was called Built to Serve. The advertisement began by noting that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the “Drum Major Instinct” sermon 50 years ago on the day of the Super Bowl. A portion of this sermon on greatness and the value of service was used as a voiceover in the commercial. During the commercial, King says, “Recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant -- that’s the new definition of greatness.” The ad then cuts to shots of the 2018 RAM 1500.
