About Pearland Texas
The city of Pearland is located within Brazoria County, with portions extending into Harris and Fort Bend counties. The history of Pearland begins in 1882 near the siding switch on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. The post office was established in 1893 when the community was named Mark Belt. In 1894, the plat of Pear-Land was filed with the courthouse by a man of Polish nobility, Witold von Zychlinksi. Throughout the years, Pearland had many fruits harvested by residents. The pear trees led to Zychlinski naming the community Pearland. In the 1800s, the landscape of the city consisted of prairie and residents harvested corn, figs, pears, watermelons, and cantaloupes. The community was promoted as an agricultural Eden. By 1990, Pearland reached its current limits with extensions into Harris County, and much of the farmland was developed into homes.
