Power of the 2023 Dodge Hornet Hybrid

As we mentioned above, the 2023 Dodge Hornet R/T is powered by a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system. A 1.3L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with a rear axle-mounted electric motor that gets power from a rechargeable 15.5 Kilowatt hour battery pack. While the turbocharged engine powers the front wheels, power is sent to the rear wheels by the electric motor, saving fuel and increasing performance. The plug-in hybrid setup of the Dodge Hornet R/T gives it 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the electric power, 184 lb of this torque is available instantaneously. The Hornet R/T powertrain sends power to all four wheels through a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission that can be controlled by paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Dodge wanted to make sure that the hybrid power of the Hornet R/T didn't compromise the performance that the brand is known for. That's why they gave the Hornet R/T the all-new PowerShot feature. Dodge created the PowerShot feature to give drivers an extra boost of power at their fingertips, literally. To engage the PowerShot feature, the driver must pull both paddle shifters while accelerating. Once activated, a PowerShot symbol will illuminate on the digital instrument cluster, and the electric powertrain will provide a burst of 25 extra horsepower for 15 seconds. The PowerShot feature can be used as many times as the driver would like, with a 15-second cooldown between each use. PowerShot provides drivers with enhanced performance that can be put to use while overtaking another vehicle, merging on the highway, or in any other instance where additional power comes in handy.

In addition to its performance, the 2023 Dodge Hornet allows drivers to control its fuel efficiency as well. Drivers can do this by selecting from three drive modes, Electric, E-Save, and Hybrid. As you probably can guess, electric mode runs the Hornet on electric power only. When additional power is requested by pressing the gas pedal, the turbocharged engine will kick on to supplement additional power. The Hornet provides more than 30 miles of emissions-free, silent driving. E-Save mode does the opposite, it disables the electric powertrain running solely on the turbocharged engine to save the electric power for a later time and recharge the battery through regenerative braking. E-save mode also offers Passive or Active mode. Passive is used to Simply Save the remaining battery power for a later time. Active mode, however, uses regenerative braking by reversing the direction of the electric motors to send electric power back to the battery pack. Meanwhile, hybrid mode puts the vehicle in control and seamlessly meshes gas and electric power to provide optimal performance and maximum fuel efficiency.
